About Ready Radio

Ready Radio is a podcast recorded and produced in Austin, Texas and is hosted by Doug Kelsey, PT, PhD. We have one main objective: help you create and maintain an active, athletic lifestyle because of the strong correlation between it and a healthy, rewarding life.

An active, athletic lifestyle is one that includes understanding how:

  • exercise challenges the mind and body.
  • to successfully manage emotional stress.
  • to develop and improve yourself.
  • your diet influences your body and your mind.
  • to develop satisfying personal and professional relationships.

Each episode covers something a little different. Some episodes will inspire you; some will rankle you. You may find yourself laughing or scratching your head wondering, but, you will always hear something unexpected; something that will bring you back to Ready Radio.

Teaching the Language of the Body

How would you feel if everyday someone asked you a question in a language you did not understand, yet expected you to know the answer?

"Por que mi cadera lastima cuando me siento? No entiendo."

"Warum meine verletzte Hüfte tut, wenn ich sitze."

"Apres que je repose trop long, comme par un film, mes genoux sois raide. Pourquoi?"

Confused? Frustrated? Definitely. This is what many people feel everyday as their body tries to communciate with them. The truth is the language of the body must be learned just as you would learn to speak or write French or Spanish. Feelings like stiffness, soreness, aching, sharp pain, dull pain, all have unique meanings and rather then just ignore them, you can use these "messages" to help you make better decisions about what to do. Sometimes, you can resolve the issues on your own while in other cases, you will need professional guidance.

How about question number one? Translated it reads "Why does my hip hurt when I sit?" - hmm, good question. One we can answer for you on Ready Radio.

Exploring the Power of Mindset

Any major bookseller will have hundreds of books on their shelves under the general heading of self-improvement: books on positive thinking, how to stop worrying, how to be happier, how to get rich, how to lose weight, how to be more organized, how to set goals, how to negotiate . Some authors have great ideas (Stephen Covey, Andy Andrews) but most of these authors examine only the emotional element of life and fail to integrate the physical with the emotional and mental. It's great to have a positive atttitude about a sore knee, but if you don't know why your knee is sore, don't know what to do about it, all the positive attitude in the world will not get you very far.

Your mindset matters. What you think has a great influence on your success in life - in fact, what you think about is often what you end up doing. Ready Radio blends the physical, mental, and emotional into a message that gives you clarity of purpose. You'll discover, for example, why something as simple as altering your sitting position can reduce back pain and how that information will change how you think about back pain.
